HINT: Not sure if one or both sides drop? Check for holes in the ends of the top and bottom rails of both sides, or gates, of the crib. Note the picture to the left, the crib rod slides through a hole in the top wooden rail of the crib side.

Q: “How do I know if my crib side drops with a hand or foot release system?”
A: Check on the inside of the center of the bottom rail of the moving side for two metal plates (gate shoes), or wood screw holes where gate shoes may have been attached originally. If the gate shoes and/or holes are present, you may have a foot release system design crib. A hand release system would instead be located underneath the top rail of the moving side at each end, usually directly underneath the holes that the crib rods will slide through.
